There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.
But we were never lonely and never afraid when we were together.

Another woman’s beauty is not the absence of your own
I knew he didn’t love me, but I adored him anyway.

We are growing older.
Our bodies spiraling like ivy vines to new destinations,
new homes, new worlds, new us.
We are chapters coming to an end, branches breaking and memories fading.
We say goodbye, tears in our eyes, silently thanking each other for the friendships that have carried us this far.
This was the moment we looked forward to our entire lives,
but we forgot how earthshakingly, heartbreakingly difficult this would be.

Yet it’s time now.
Say your goodbyes,
this is a new chapter,
but the book isn’t over.
We’re going to run into each other again someday,
but till then,
goodbye,
safe travels,
I’ll miss you.

balsambreath:

I thought of texting you
“good morning, I can’t sleep”
and then I remembered
that you are on a journey
which I am not a part of
and that’s okay
but
good morning
I can’t sleep
